Most recently, Kristen decided to start the next phase of her professional career: becoming a PhD student at a top-ranked iSchool. After graduating, Kristen worked in public libraries in North Carolina, providing service to people of all ages and backgrounds.

Information professionals can transfer emergent data roles and competencies to the world of big data 2.0 and serve their institutions and communities by acting as data ethics advisors, data literacy educators, digital curation consultants, and interdisciplinary research facilitators. Libraries are also helping their communities engage with and manage data in their everyday lives, but there are new challenges on the horizon including very large-scale collaborative research projects based on public participation and sharing of personal health and related data that raise ethical, legal and policy issues.
